Missouri Southern freshman Renee Rheinecker and junior Jeanna Feldmann were named to the MIAA’s all-conference volleyball team, released Wednesday by the league office.
Pittsburg State senior Pamela Cartagena was named conference player of the year and is one of six Gorillas on the team.
Rheinecker, an outside hitter, was named third team all-league, and Feldmann, also an outside hitter, received honorable mention.
Rheinecker led the Lions and ranked ninth in the conference with 3.13 kills per set. She also had 47 blocks.
Feldmann was right behind Rheinecker with 3.12 kills per set, and her 2.10 digs per set ranked second on the team.
Cartagena, named first team all-conference for the third straight year, was second in the league in kills (3.97) and ninth in digs (4.41). She is second on the PSU career lists with 1,816 kills and 2,232 digs. She is nine kills behind record-holder and former teammate Sammie Williams and 94 digs behind Dina Wathan.
The Gorillas’ setter Emily Vosseler and outside hitter Corrine Stringer made the second team, libero Cassie Wilson is on the third team, and middle hitters Molly Bergkamp and Brooke Fay received honorable mention.
Emporia State outside hitter Arica Shepard joined Cartagena as the only unanimous all-league choices.
Middle hitter Megan Sharpe of Truman State is the freshman of the year, and Flip Piontek of league-champion Central Missouri is the coach of the year. The Jennies have 20 conference titles in 28 years of MIAA competition.
