Talihina eliminates Commerce

TALIHINA, Okla. — Quarterback Jordan Eagle Road ran for one touchdown and passed for two more, as Talihina overpowered Commerce 38-7 Friday night in the second round of the Oklahoma Class A high school football playoffs.

Commerce, which ended its season at 9-3, got its only TD in the second quarter and trailed 21-7 at halftime.

Commerce’s Bryson Sullivan returned a kickoff 75 yards for the Tigers’ only score.

The Tigers mustered only six first downs to 14 for the host, and gained 55 yards in rushing on 31 carries. Passing did not fare much better with Joey Bowling completing seven of 13 passes for 64 yards and one interception.

Eagle Road and James Cody Brigance led the ground game for Talihina, which accumulated 305 yards on 45 rushes. Eagle Road rushed 16 times for 115 yards and Brigance had 16 for 121.

Eagle Road also completed four of seven passes for 112 yards.

Talihina (12-0) will play the winner of the Hennessey-Carnegie game in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
