The Joplin Miners swung hot bats on Wednesday night and upped their season-best winning streak to five games.
The Miners got a breakout night from Josh Miller and swept Webb City 12-2 and 9-5 at Joe Becker Stadium.
Miller finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with seven RBI, three doubles and a triple.
“We’re playing well right now,” Miners coach Bobby Stackhouse said. “It’s fun to come to the ball park.”
Miller’s two-run double sparked an eight-run Joplin outburst in the fourth inning of th opener. That gave the Miners their 12-2 lead, which was plenty for Caleb Garton, who went the distance in the five-inning game, striking out four and walking one.
Miller was 3-for-4 in the nightcap with five RBI, two doubles and a triple.
Tristan Ash and Bryce Ash combined on the mound to scatter nine hits and five runs.
The Miners, now 18-9 and 6-0 in district play open the Baxter Springs tournament today against the host team at 1 p.m. at Baxter’s Field of Dreams.
On Tuesday night the Miners defeated Pryor, Okla., 7-6.
