Redden honored at Joplin High School

The memory of longtime Joplin Globe sports editor Wendell Redden was honored Friday at Joplin High School.

Ken Cochran, coach of Joplin's 1959 state championship baseball team, organized an effort with his former players to recognize Redden and honor future Joplin High athletes at the same time.

Cochran unvieled The Wendell Redden Most Valuable All Sports Award in front of a crowd about 30 people. The large display includes a photo of Redden, a discription of his life and space for names of MVPs in all 19 of Joplin's high school sports for the next 15 years.

Redden, who died in 2011, is a 1951 graduate of Joplin High School and was sports editor at The Joplin Globe from 1952 until he retired in 1996.
