Prep Roundup: Bulldogs rip Lamar

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Bryce Boyd scored 23 points to help lead the Carl Junction girls to a convincing 72-27 victory over Lamar in Big 8 Conference action.

Boyd was one of 12 Bulldogs to score in the game. Brenlee McPherson also factored into double figures with 10 points.

“We played very well,” Bulldogs coach Jonathan Wengert said. “We moved the ball well against their zone. It was just an all-around good funamentally sound basketball game for us.”

Ciara Shoff led the Tigers with 10 points.

Hillcrest girls 54, Joplin 45

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Hillcrest used a third quarter surge to escape the Joplin girls.

The Hornets led 21-20 at the half, and pulled away with a 16-9 spurt in the third quarter before holding off a late Eagles rally.

Joplin’s best quarter, a 16-point fourth quarter, proved too late to make any ground on the Hornets.

Kelsey Cleeton led the Hornets with 17 points while Britany Fisher and Kendra Painter scored 10 each.

Casee Wheeler poured in 19 points for the Eagles to lead all scorers.

Willard girls 68, Webb City 57

WILLARD, Mo. — Willard saved its best quarter for last, using a 23-point burst to pull away from Webb City in a Central Ozark Conference Large Division bout.

Clinching a four point advantage (45-41) entering the fourth quarter, the Tigers turned in 23 points to pull away from the Cardinals late.

Brook Duncan led all scorers with 23 points in the victory. Brittany Scott chipped in 12 for the Tigers as well.

Gabbie Gannaway recorded 21 points for the Cardinals while Mikaela Burgess added 17 and Kaitlin Beason turned in 11.
