MIAMI —
Miami Heat president Pat Riley is this year’s recipient of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the National Basketball Coaches Association.
Riley will be announced as the recipient in a news conference before Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. He is the fifth person to receive the award, joining Tommy Heinsohn in 2009, Jack Ramsay and Tex Winter in 2010 and Lenny Wilkens in 2011.
The award commemorates Daly’s life in basketball, and his “standard of integrity, competitive excellence and tireless promotion” of the game. Riley and Daly coached against each other for years, and became particularly close when Daly was dying of pancreatic cancer in 2009.
Riley says he’s humbled and honored by the award.
