SAN DIEGO —
Former San Diego Padres marketing executive Andy Strasberg has published Baseball Fantography: A Celebration in Snapshots and Stories from the Fans.
The book features more than 200 photos of players — both on and off the field — ballparks, mascots and other images taken during the last 100 years, as well as first-person recollections.
Strasberg got the idea when he found a snapshot of himself as a teenager posing with Roger Maris at Yankee Stadium in 1966. Figuring that other people had similar photos, he began working on the book.
The photos range from 1918, when Hall of Famers Tris Speaker and Walter “Rabbit” Maranville are seen chatting, to 2009, when Josh Hamilton is seen stretching at spring training.
Strasberg was the technical consultant for the HBO film 61(asterisk). Bob Costas wrote the forward for the book, published by Abrams Image.
Strasberg says he’s working on the next book in the series.
