PRYOR, Okla. —
The Joplin Miners won their two American Legion baseball games in Pool A on Thursday night to reach the championship game of the Pryor Tournament.
The title contest is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. today. The Miners are 23-12 under Bobby Stackhouse. He said the probable starting pitcher for the Miners is right-hander Caleb Garton.
The Miners beat NOAH 13-2 in five innings and Pryor 8-4 on Thursday.
Joplin collected 12 hits and relied on the three-hit pitching of right-hander Bryce Ash to subdue NOAH. The Miners scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Ash, powered offensively by batterymate Keith Simpson, struck out two, walked none and posted his fourth victory of the summer,
Simpson had three hits and drove in five runs. His first home run of the summer was a three-run blow to highlight the fifth inning.
Also, center fielder Gavin Jones was 3-for-3, second baseman Nate Brummer had two hits and three RBI, and designated hitter Blake Brown had two hits and one RBI.
Simpson tossed 5 1/3 innings against Pryor for the victory and fellow right-hander Brummer finished for the save.
Catcher Tristan Ash had three hits and two RBI against Pryor and Brummer also had two RBI.
The Miners, trailing 3-0, scored four times in the top of the third inning and had three tallies in the fifth to break a 4-4 deadlock.
Pryor, which recently lost 7-6 to the Miners and Brummer in Joplin, received four hits from shortstop Anthony Martinez.
