Professional soccer club coming to Joplin

Joplin city officials announced today the location of a professional soccer team at a news conference.

The Joplin Demize, an extension of a Springfield club in the USL Premier Development League, has been brought to town by collaborative efforts of the city’s Parks and Recreation Director Chris Cotten and Joplin attorney Ed Hershewe, the expansion team’s owner.

The Joplin Demize will begin play this summer in the National Premier Soccer League, a part of a national league that operates in the fourth division of the United States Soccer Pyramid.

The team will play at the Joplin Athletic Complex where the city has repurposed bleachers from the vacant Gabby Street Park for spectator seating.
