Stauffer bows twice in NCAAs

— Arizona State redshirt freshman Blake Stauffer, who graduated from Neosho High School, fell in both of his matches at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Stauffer, wrestling at 174 pounds, lost a 4-2 decision to Northern Illinois’ Matt Mougin in the first round.

In the consolation bracket, Stauffer lost a 4-0 decision to Bakersfield’s Bryce Hammond.

Stauffer’s record dropped to 22-5 on the season.

He was a two-sport standout in football and wrestling at Neosho. He was a two-time state wrestling champion and finished his career with a 193-9 record. In 2011, he was named the Missouri Wrestler of the Year.
