ST. CHARLES, Mo. —
The opening day of MIAA play was unkind to the Missouri Southern Lions on Sunday.
The Lions dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Lindenwood on the first day of a two-day, three-game series.
Lindenwood blanked MSSU 7-0 in the opener before outlasting Southern 3-2 in 11 innings in the nightcap.
The two teams meet today for the series finale at 1 p.m.
Lindenwood (2-4, 2-0 MIAA) was led by Dylan Terrell in the opener. Terrell, a 6-foot-4 sophomore lefty, threw a complete game, striking out seven and holding Southern (4-2, 0-2) to four hits while walking one.
Dallas Burke had two of Southern’s four hits and Shaun Hoover had a double, the Lions’ lone extra-base hit.
MSSU outhit Lindenwood 11-6 in the nightcap but was hurt by five errors, one of which led to an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth that tied the game at two.
Neither team scored again until Lindenwood’s Nathan Prindle coaxed a bases-loaded walk out of Payton Walker for the game-winner.
Sam Ryan, who was 4-for-5 for the game, doubled home Dallas Burke and then came home when Nick Doughty — also 4-for-5 for the game — singled during MSSU’s two-run third inning. But that was all the damage that Lindenwood starter Zac Pearman allowed.
Southern’s David Reese was the hard-luck loser, allowing just one earned run while striking out four in 7 2/3 innings of work. Bo Bergen and Stephen Vaughn combined for three scoreless innings of relief before Lindenwood won it in the 11th.
Lindenwood had six players with one hit each, just one of which went for extra bases.

Lamar runs to title
