White receives All-American status with best time in dash

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Missouri Southern sprinter Amber White made the most of her final three races of the indoor track and field season.

White improved on her personal best in two of those three 400-meter races. Her personal record of 55.25 seconds during the finals was good for fourth place at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. White, a junior, earned All-America honors.

Her time was the second best in school history for the indoor season, second only to Mary Still’s time of 54.98.

“She ran amazing this weekend,” Missouri Southern women’s track and field coach Patty Vavra said. “She ran in the 55s only three times this season, and she did it at conference and then two times in a row at nationals.”

White ran a then-personal best 55.90 at the MIAA indoor meet before running 55.91 during Friday’s preliminaries.

Missouri Southern junior Darion Boure earned All-America honors by placing fifth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 49 feet, 5.5 inches. Pole vaulters Michael Juergens and Brady Melugin joined Boure as All-Americans on Friday. The Lions’ men finished 19th overall.

Missouri Southern’s women placed 29th overall as White and Kaylee Morgan earned All-America status. On Saturday, MSSU’s Whitney Hardy was 14th in the high jump with a height of 5-5. Brittani Reagan was 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 39-3.75. Kylie Cornman placed 12th in the shot put with a distance of 47-5.25.

“They competed well and had decent marks,” Vavra said. “But the competition in those events was outstanding today. Brittani Reagan was near her best mark, but everyone else jumped real well, too. It was the best triple jump competition I’ve seen in my 20 years at Missouri Southern. A mark to get into finals was one that usually could win it.”

Pittsburg State’s men finished 14th and the women took 21st. Sophomore Andre Sanders earned All-America status by placing seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.06 seconds.
