Felker pursuing Daum in Midget Series points

Carl Junction’s Andrew Felker logged three finishes in the top 10 last week in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.

Felker, defending champion, trails leader Zach Daum, Pocahontas, Ill., by 120 points with 20 of 31 events completed.

Said Felker: “We could have done better, of course, but it’s improvement (from recent outings) and definitely we can build off it. We still have a good shot at defending our title.

“Actually, we’re thankful for our position,” Felker said. “A lot of pressure goes with No. 1 in points. Now, maybe, we can put some pressure on them.”

Felker placed fourth on Friday night in the A feature at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway. Rico Abreu, Rutherford, Calif., won the 30-lapper.

Felker was seventh on Saturday night at Macon (Ill.) Speedway. Chris Bell, 18, Norman, Okla., won the race.

Felker finished seventh on Sunday in the Miller Lite Cornfest at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. Bryan Clauson, Noblesville, Ind., claimed that A feature.

Felker is idle until next Wednesday. The Jason Leffler Memorial will be held at the 1/8-mile Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, Ill. Then, Felker said, it will be the Pepsi Nationals on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Sun Prairie.
