Jansen Adams, a 6-foot-2 senior, sank crucial free throws twice in the bonus situation to lift Carl Junction past visiting Webb City 48-47 in a nonconference boys prep basketball game on Friday night.

Adams, who scored 18 points, hit a pair of charities to tie the game and hit two for the final score, according to Carl Junction assistant Mark Robertson.

Carl Junction (8-12) outscored the Cardinals (10-11) 16-12 in the fourth period.

The Cardinals received 20 points from 6-0 junior guard Scott Roderique.

Central clips Lady Eagles

Joplin, powered by 5-5 junior May Lee’s 36 points, took the Springfield team into overtime before losing 75-70.

Central outscored Joplin 26-18 in the final quarter and 7-2 in the extra session.

Jessie McMullen, another junior, scored in double figures for the Eagles with 11.

Central got 29 points from Brittany McClelland and 15 from Caprese Marshall.

Kayla Thaman, Joplin center, missed her second straight game with a shoulder injury.

Said Joplin coach Vicki Spivy: “We were very competitive in an intense game that went back-and-forth.”

Thomas Jefferson boys win

Taylor Barton sank five 3s in scoring 17 points and added eight rebounds and four assists as the Cavaliers trimmed visiting Verona 72-36 in the Ozark 7 Conference.

The Cavaliers (13-1, 4-1) also got 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots from Jordan Stauffer. Alex Oserowsky had 12 points.

For Verona, Wesley Kissinger tallied 15 and Cody Ernsberger 10. The Wildcats trailed 31-16 at the half.

Verona girls handle Cavs

The visiting Wildcats sank nine treys in beating Thomas Jefferson 77-24 in an Ozark 7 Conference game.

Verona, which was led in scoring by Tristan Carrasquillo (29) and Jenna Chadd (24), led 51-13 at the half and improved to 16-4 overall and 5-1 in the Ozark7. Jessica Smith added 12 points for Verona.

Sally Currence tallied 12 points and Cassie Zuehlke eight for the Cavaliers.

The teams ironically meet in a makeup game on Monday night at Verona.
