WEBB CITY, Mo. — Four state qualifying performances and five meet records spiced the Central Ozark Conference Invitational girls swimming meet on Friday at Buck Miner Pool.
Nixa edged Ozark 318-302 for the team championship. Webb City, which won half of the 12 events, finished third in the five-team field with 251 points, followed by Carthage with 155 and Marshfield 139.
Webb City’s Ashley Johnson, Erica Logal and Brittany Steever secured state berths. Johnson dominated the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 36.87 seconds, more than 50 seconds ahead of the field. Logal won the 100 backstroke (1:13.31), and Steever placed second in the 100 freestyle (56.22) behind Nixa’s Anna Brinck (56.12).
Logal also won the 200 freestyle (2:20.03), Johnson prevailed in the 200 individual medley (2:24.52), and Steever captured the 50 freestyle (26.37). They joined Caitlin Isaac to win the 200 medley relay (2:03.46).
Meet records were set by Johnson in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, Logal in the 100 breaststroke, Brinck in the 100 freestyle and Nixa’s 200 free relay team (1:50.38).
Ozark’s Ashley Short was a double winner, taking the 100 butterfly (1:06.73) and the 100 backstroke (1:11.26).
