PITTSBURG, Kan. — Nicole McCombs made all four of her free throws in the second overtime and Laura Glenn sank two more with 12 seconds left in Pittsburg State’s 106-102 victory Saturday against Northwest Missouri State.
Pittsburg State’s men overcame a 35-31 halftime deficit and defeated the Bearcats 77-68.
McCombs led Pittsburg State with 25 points and DePrice Taylor scored 24 as the Lady Gorillas improved to 11-11 overall and 9-6 in the MIAA. Northwest Missouri fell to 11-11 and 7-8.
The game marked the first time that both the Lady Gorillas and their opponent reached the century mark since Pittsburg State defeated Truman State 104-102 on Jan. 28, 1995 at Kirksville.
Laura Glenn’s three-point play with 45 seconds remaining in regulation brought Pittsburg State from behind and tied the score at 87. The Lady Gorillas committed a turnover at the end of regulation and missed the last shot of the first overtime.
Glenn, who made 10 of 11 free throws, scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Teammate Larissa Richards was eight of 12 from the field and scored 19 points.
Abby Henry of Northwest Missouri sank all 12 of her free throws and led the Lady Bearcats with 33 points and eight assists. Gentry Dietz added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Northwest Missouri and Shelly Martin scored 16 points.
In the men’s game, PSU’s Spencer Magana scored 29 points as the Gorillas won for the second time in 15 MiAA games and improved to 8-14 overall.
Magana sank three 3s in four attempts and was 12 of 13 from the free-throw line. Henry Rogers had 12 points for the Gorillas and Rodney Grace and Andy Smith each scored 11.
Elijah Allen led Northwest Missouri, 11-11 and 6-9, with 15 points, while Girod Adams had 13 points and five assists.
Pittsburg State faces Missouri Southern in a men’s and women’s doubleheader that begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Missouri Southern.
