Southern’s Riutta

adds name to list

Junior Carita Riutta has joined the growing list of Missouri Southern athletes with provisional qualifying times for the NCAA Division II Indoor National track and field meet.

Riutta ran the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 15.86 seconds on Saturday during the Cyclone Open at Ames, Iowa.

The Lions had several other strong performances during weekend competition at Iowa State, Central Missouri and the University of New Mexico.

Pole vaulters Corey Shumate and Michael Juergens both cleared 15 feet, 7 inches, just two inches shy of the provisional standard.

It was the first meet over 15-0 for freshman Juergens.

Seniors Ashley Bunch and Courtney Waltbillig were second and fifth, respectively, in the 5,000 run at Iowa State. Both failed to improve provisional qualifying marks.

High jumpers Corey Reynolds and Chris Brown both cleared 6-81/4, one height short of an automatic qualifying mark, in the meet at New Mexico.

Juniors D.J. Bland and Aki Nummela fell shy of improved marks in the 400 and mile, respectively.

Seneca wrestlers

win tournament

DIAMOND, Mo. — Seneca won the Diamond Dual Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, stopping Webb City 59-9 in the championship match.

The Indians won pool matches against Anderson County, Kan. (63-15), Diamond (74-6) and Pryor, Okla. (69-12). They beat Monett in a semifinal match 76-6.

Eleven Seneca wrestlers were undefeated over the five-match day: Blake Byrne (103 pounds), Bryce Byrne (112), Tim Harnar (119), Colby Skaggs (125), Nathan Fortner (130), Josh Mullin (135), Dillan Webb (140), Jake Williams (145), Jake Rhoades (152), Dalton Cummings (171) and Derrick Hopper (285).

Seneca finished 16-1 in duals. The Indians compete in the Class 1 district next weekend at Jefferson City Blair Oaks.

Webb City falls

to Branson boys

BRANSON, Mo. — Branson kept the Webb City High School boys basketball team winless in the Central Ozark Conference Large Division with a 74-47 victory on Saturday.

The Cardinals (10-12, 0-4) trailed by just 30-24 at halftime.

The Pirates, beating Webb City for the second time this season, received 20 points from 6-foot-6 junior Avery Dingman, 16 from 6-1 junior Sam Pugh, 14 from 6-2 senior Dana Thomas and 13 from 5-10 senior Tee Helsel.

Thomas also grabbed 13 rebounds to key a 46-24 advantage on the boards.

Philip Donna, 6-2 junior who hit six of 12 shots from the field, scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds for Webb City. Classmates Austin Daniel and Maddy Johnson added 12 points and five assists, respectively.

Webb City is scheduled to visit El Dorado Springs on Tuesday night for a nonconference game.

MONTROSE, Mo. — Four games tonight will open basketball competition in the Golden Valley Vernon County Conference Tournament at Montrose High School.

The schedule is Northeast Vernon County girls vs. Ballard at 4:30 p.m., Bronaugh boys vs. Montrose at 6, Sheldon girls vs. Bronaugh at 7:30 and Sheldon boys vs. Ballard at 9.
