Outlaws capture opener at Clarinda

CLARINDA, Iowa — Koby Chadick was 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two runs as the Joplin Outlaws defeated the Clarinda A’s 6-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday night at Municipal Stadium.

Outlaws starter Jake Stevenson allowed six hits in a seven-inning complete game. He walked none and struck out five. He threw 97 pitches, 65 for strikes.

Clarinda won the second game, 8-1. The Outlaws (13-22, 11-21 MINK) play a single game at 7 p.m. today at Clarinda.

Chadick’s two-run double in the fourth inning gave the Outlaws a 6-1 lead. Zac Stewart, who walked, and Kyle Dickens, who was hit by a pitch, scored on the play.

The Outlaws took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on Matt Turner’s two-out, two-run double. Second baseman Nick Moore led off the inning with a single and advanced to third when Austin McClain reached on a two-base throwing error.

The Outlaws extended their lead to 4-1 in the third inning on Dickens’ one-out double, a walk to Moore, an RBI single by Enrique Finol and an error that allowed Moore to score.

The A’s took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out single by Blake Trahan, who stole second and scored on a single by Bud Britt.

In the second game, the A’s scored six runs in the first inning highlighted by Keith Cormier’s two-run double, an RBI double by Mason Paxton and run-scoring singles by Blake Trahan and Cory Raley. A’s center fielder DMarko Poindexter was 3-for-4 and scored two runs.

The Outlaws, who were outhit 11-3, scored in the second inning on a walk to Zach Barton, a single by Colton Krokroskia and an error.
