The Joplin High School baseball team split two games in the annual Tiger/Zebra Classic at Pryor (Okla.) on Thursday.
The Eagles (2-3 overall) nipped Skiatook 9-8 before Chickasha handed them an 8-0, no-hit loss in five innings.
Joplin is scheduled for two games today — Miami at 3 p.m. and Pryor at 8. Claremore is host of the other pool.
Joplin, trailing Skiatook 8-0, caught up with an eight-run fourth inning that included a two-run single by Bryce Paden. Cameron Rector also had a run-scoring single in the frame and Alex Woodard a single.
Taylor Huff’s triple and Cody Sadler’s single snapped the tie in the sixth.
Junior right-hander Logan Moore picked up the win by hurling three scoreless innings in relief. He allowed two hits, struck out three and hit a batter.
Sadler finished with two hits and two RBI against Skiatook.

Riverton 3
RIVERTON, Kan. — Payton Walker, a sophomore left-hander, struck out 12 and walked two as the Bulldogs evened their record at 3-3 with the nonconference win.
Walker and center fielder Jake Stevenson had two hits and one RBI apiece to fuel the Bulldogs on offense. Walker’s triple and Stevenson’s two-out single snapped a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning.
Damion Simmons had two hits for Riverton (2-1).
Webb City 5, Bentonville 4
WEBB CITY, Mo. — The Cardinals, sparked by Tyler Burgess and Patrick Drake, hiked their record to 3-2 with the nonconference victory.
Burgess, a junior left-hander, worked into the seventh inning to boost his record to 2-1. He struck out 11 and walked three. Drake, a senior right-hander, secured three outs for his first save.
Drake also had three singles, drove in two runs and scored one. Gage Belcher added two hits and one run scored.
Bentonville, which battled back from a 4-0 deficit after two innings, received two hits from Dallas Hardison.
Webb City visits Carl Junction today for a 1 p.m. varsity-junior varsity doubleheader.
College Heights 10,
Greenfield 4
The Cougars, opening their Spring River Valley Conference schedule, collected 13 hits in spacious Joe Becker Stadium.
Junior right-hander David Rice sparkled on the mound and at the plate for CHC (4-1 overall).
Rice, who struck out 12 and walked two in six innings, also had three hits, three runs scored and one RBI.
Junior right-hander Jordan Miller, moving from shortstop, finished on the hill for Cougars. He also doubled and tripled.
Andrew Sauer and Amos Tart each had two hits for College Heights. The Cougars struck for eight runs in the second inning.

Willard 1, Joplin 0
WILLARD, Mo. — Despite a strong defensive showing, the Joplin girls soccer team fell to Willard, a district opponent, in a penalty kick shootout.
Joplin had an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal during regulation.
Willard made its sixth kick — for a 5-4 lead — and the Eagles missed to end the game.

Galena Bulldog Relays
GALENA, Kan. — Galena’s boys and Baxter Springs’ girls won team championships in the Bulldog Relays at Galena High School.
The host team won a tight boys battle that saw just 10 points separate the top four teams. Galena finished with 80 points, followed by Riverton 78, College Heights 73 and Baxter Springs 70.
The Bulldogs placed fourth in the final event — 4x400 relay — to claim the title. College Heights won the race, and Baxter Springs was sixth.
Double winners were Mike Ruple of Baxter Springs (shot put, discus), Tylor Albright of Galena (long jump, triple jump) and Chase Mead of Riverton (100, 200 meters).
Baxter Springs scored 92 points to win the girls championship. Liberal edged Commerce 81-78 for second.
Liberal’s Kylie Brown prevailed in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
TENNIS
Glendale 7, Joplin 2
One victory in singles and another in doubles was all Joplin could muster as the Eagles opened their dual-match slate against Glendale in an Ozark Conference match at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
Joplin’s Derek Carter defeated John Nahon 8-1 at No. 2 singles and the Eagle team of Carter and Alex Belden nudged Nahon and his brother, Paul, at No. 1 doubles 9-7.
Thomas Jefferson 9,
Monett 0
The Cavaliers, opening their dual schedule, lost only four games in singles and one in doubles in defeating the Cubs.
Jeremy Lynn defeated Al Dohmen 8-1 at No. 1 singles for Thomas Jefferson.
Spenser Newman and David Evans blanked Dohmen and Taylor Peterson 8-0 in the top doubles match.
Webb City 7, Neosho 2
Ryan Miller defeated Bruce Mahr 8-1 at No. 1 singles and combined with Caleb Shoemake at No. 1 doubles to topple Mahr and Matthew Garrity 8-4 to spark Webb City to its second win in as many outings.
Victories for Neosho (3-1) came at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, with Evan Clark defeating Ethan Roeplogle 8-3 and Jeremiah Jennings upending Brandon Shultz 8-6.
