MANHATTAN, Kan. — St. Mary’s-Colgan outlasted Nemaha Valley in a 37-32 defensive struggle on Friday in the semifinal round of he Class 2A state basketball tournament at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Panthers, 21-3, will play second-seeded Berean Academy at 6:15 p.m. today for the state championship.
Nemaha Valley hit three of its first four 3-point shots and took a 22-20 halftime edge over Colgan. The Panthers moved in front 27-26 after a slow-paced third quarter.
Jesse Watt hit three of five shots from the floor and five of six free throws to lead Colgan’s offense with 11 points. Andy Farmer had nine points and a team-high five rebounds.
Dane Brinker’s 12 points led the Raiders, who dropped to 15-9 for the season. Tyler Nolte led with six rebounds.
Nemaha Valley will play Salina Sacred Heart for third place today. Berean Academy stopped Sacred Heart 58-47 in the other semifinal game.
