Three bowlers each captured three firsts in the recent Greater Joplin USBC Youth City Tournament at Bowl East.
Tadd Nichols, who rolled the top scratch series of 707 in the handicap singles for bowlers with averages ranging from 150 to 194, won singles with 806, teamed with Christopher Nichols to take doubles with 1,466 and captured the all-events with a six-game total of 1,569, including handicap. Zach Fort was second in singles and all-events and teamed with Tyler Meyer to finish second in doubles.
Other three-event winners were Shayla Dutton in the 100-149 average category and Tyler Meyer in the 195-up division.
Shayla won singles with a 727 total, including handicap, teamed with sister Quincy to take doubles with 1,365, and claimed the all-events crown with 1,425. Quincy was second in singles and in all-events. Tyler captured singles with a 618, joined with Kenny G. Phillips Jr., to take doubles with 1,234 and took all-events with 1,265. Darrell Brisco was runner-up in both singles and all-events in the 195-up division.
Other first-place winners: Amber Fleming-Logan Vaughan, doubles, 0-199 division; Victoria Fleming, singles 0-99 division, and Amber Fleming, all-events, 0-99 division.
Congratulations to all the winners who will be recognized during the annual city association banquet in May.
State tourney to begin
The fourth annual Missouri State USBC Open Championship Tournament will begin here next weekend and continue through the weekend of April 24-25 with the exception of Easter weekend, April 3-4.
The team event will be contested at Carl Richard Bowl East, with singles and doubles at the Fourth Street Bowl.
Ed Hinderberger of Columbia, the tournament director, said the field includes 419 teams, 1,985 doubles entries and 3,970 singles entries.
Browning, Vaughan set pace
Chad Browning and Alisha Vaughan topped the city’s series charts last week with 780 and 705, respectively.
Chad, bowling at Bowl East, had games of 263, 259 and 258 to produce his big set and also logged a 277 game during the week. Young Justin Brisco was only one pin off Browning’s pace, totaling 779 on games of 277, 257 and 246.
Alisha, who logged her big series at the Fourth Street Bowl, linked together games of 237, 256 and 212. Her 256 game was also high for the week.
Kenny Snow, in the reporting period ending last Wednesday, produced the high line for the men with a 295.
Tammy Little and Teri Lankford posted the top numbers for the women at Bowl East. Tammy had a 627 series and Teri logged the high line of 245.
Tom Fortson’s 237 series and James Lack’s 234 game set the pace for the senior bowlers at East. William Rentchler had a 236 game and Wayne Blackford a 599 series at Fourth Street Bowl.
Bev Cochran topped the senior women’s charts with a 233 game and 578 series at Bowl East. Taukia Reynolds rolled a 559 series and Billie Bilke had a 220 game to lead the senior women at Fourth Street Bowl.
Darrell Brisco’s 246 game and Tyler Meyer’s 636 series were tops for the city’s youth bowlers during the week.
