IndyCar’s Bourdais disappointed to share 1 engine

DETROIT — Sebastien Bourdais says he knew once Dragon Racing’s deal with Lotus went bad it was going to be tough to overcome.

He has found out just how tough it will be.

Bourdais will be relegated to competing on street courses — such as Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix — and teammate Katherine Legge will race on ovals.

Dragon Racing team owner Jay Penske dropped a $4.6 million lawsuit against Lotus last month in order to be released from a contract to make a deal to use Chevrolet engines.

Chevrolet, though, is providing the team with only one engine for the rest of this season.

Bourdais, a four-time champion of the defunct Champ Car Series, says it’s too bad he can’t race the entire season.
