SARCOXIE, Mo. —
College Heights Christian split basketball games in opening play in the annual Sarcoxie High School Tournament on Monday night.
The CHC boys, closing out the three-game session, defeated the Mount Vernon junior varsity 47-32.
Jasper’s girls, however, beat the Cougars 59-51 in the second contest.
Riverton’s girls defeated the host Bears 47-41 in the first game.
The CHC boys, who extended a 22-18 halftime advantage, were powered by Josh Woodmansee’s 29 points.
Daniel Redfearn tallied 11 for the fledgling Mountaineers.
The Jasper girls had four players score in double figures — Monica Steeves (14), Adi Etcheson (13), Elizabeth Maneval (10) and Morgan Winchester (10).
Kirsty Green, who had five treys, scored 22 points for CHC. Bri Shores added 13.
Madi Hull led Riverton in scoring with 16 and MacKenzie Dunbar netted 10. Janelle DePrieste and Megan Meyer combined for 21 Sarcoxie points.
Today’s schedule is Sarcoxie girls vs. McAuley Catholic at 5 p.m., CHC girls vs. Exeter and Sarcoxie boys vs. Exeter.

LIBERAL, Mo. — Galena’s Gabe Helton and Deven Newman each scored 14 points as Galena defeated Thomas Jefferson 57-48 in a first-round boys game in the annual tournament.
Justin Brown, who was 10 of 11 from the foul line, scored 20 for Thomas Jefferson. Tyler Thurman and John Burnett added 13 and 10, respectively.
Wheaton beat Northeast of Arma 47-35 in the other boys game.
In girls games, Lockwood defeated Golden City 54-31 and Galena hurdled Northeast 41-29.
Today’s four-game session tips off at 4 p.m. with the St. Mary’s-Colgan girls playing Bronaugh.
