ST. LOUIS —
Unbeaten Cottey College was forced into overtime before subduing St. Louis Community College 82-74 at Forest Park on Saturday.
The Archers (10-4), ranked 20th in NJCAA Division II women’s basketball, rallied from a 66-61 deficit with 49 seconds left to force the extra session against the Comets.
But the Nevada-based Comets began the overtime with three straight layups and finished 10 of 14 from the foul line in the overtime in claiming their ninth win.
Sanders finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds, Stankovic 19 and 13 and Bailey Braden 10 and 11. Dayna Turnbull had nine points and Chelsey Rowland six.
Shakaunna Futrell, a sophomore guard, tallied 27 points for St. Louis Community College. Lauren Maclin added 12 for the Archers.
A trey by Chanese Washington and a steal and layup by Futrell caught the Comets to force the overtime.
Cottey rallied from a 32-27 deficit at the half behind the scoring of Sanders and Stankovic (30 of 39 Comet second-half points). Sanders tallied seven in the overtime.
Cottey resumes on Wednesday by visiting Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington.
