Prep roundup: Webb City splits at Branson

BRANSON, Mo. — Ignited by its defense, Webb City seized control in the third quarter and downed Branson 60-41 Friday night in Central Ozarks Conference Large Division girls basketball action.

Desirea Buerge and Casey Heger tallied 19 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the Cardinals (18-4, 2-2 COC Large),

They and Mikaela Burgess combined for 21 points in the third stanza when the Cardinals outscored Branson 24-7 to erase a 25-22 halftime deficit.

“We got after them better defensively,” Webb City coach Brad Shorter said. “We played harder, played more aggressive. We did some really good things out on the perimeter. I felt like we did a much better job of being active and making it a little more difficult for them to pass it into the post.

“That got our offense going. We got a few easy baskets here and there, and kids hit some big shots. I’m pleased. This is a quality win for us on the road.”

Moriah Dapprich scored 16 points and Ashley Forrest 10 for the Pirates.

Webb City entertains Carthage on Monday night.

Branson boys 50, Webb City 45

BRANSON, Mo. — Thatch Unruh scored 26 points and led Branson past Webb City in a boys Central Ozark Conference Large Division contest.

Branson outscored the Cardinals 20-7 in the second quarter and led 33-21 at halftime.

Phoenix Johnson scored three 3-pointers among his 20 points, and Jalen Vaden chipped in 11 points for the Cardinals.

Carl Junction boys 79, Aurora 55

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Travis Vogt’s 18 points in the first period launched the Bulldogs in the Big 8 Conference game.

Carl Junction (12-9, 4-1) led 45-28 at the half in hiking its winning streak to five games.

Vogt, who had five 3s, finished with 25 points. Dustin Satterlee added 16, Matt Magee 15 and J, Thomas 11.

Aurora received 19 points from Corey Gregory and 11 from Andrew Parker.

Greenwood boys 50, Thomas Jefferson 40

Nathan Carmichael scored 15 points as Springfield Greenwood defeated Thomas Jefferson in a boys nonconference game at Thomas Jefferson.

Greenwood led 32-29 going into the fourth quarter, then outscored the Cavaliers 18-11 the rest of the way.

Tyler Thurman led Thomas Jefferson with 21 points and Justin Brown scored 11 points.

Miller boys 67, College Heights 36

Three Miller players scored in double figures as the Cardinals defeated College Heights in a boys Spring River Valley Conference game at College Heights.

Riley Jack led Miller with 12 points, Jordan Jack scored 11 and Dolan Parnell had 10 points for the Cardinals.

Jake Hamilton led College Heights with 16 points.

Miller girls 59, College Heights 29

Jessica McAdams scored 23 points and led Miller’s girls to a Spring River Valley Conference victory at College Heights.

Miller jumped out to a 19-4 first-quarter lead and led 33-16 at halftime. Cesya May added eight points for the Cardinals.

Bri Shores led College Heights with 12 points. Kirsty Green scored 10 points, had three assists and three steals, and Brogan Ward led the Cougars in rebounding with six.
