NEOSHO, Mo. —
Neosho held on to beat the Joplin Eagles 51-50 in the varsity girls basketball season-opener on Tuesday night in Neosho.
The Wildcats led 39-31 after three quarters, but Joplin made a charge in the final minutes.
However, Joplin opened the season with a loss. Bailey Taylor led the Eagles with 22 points, including two 3-pointers. Kelsey Johnson and Jacqueline Lieurance scored 11 points each for Joplin.
Neosho was led by 16 points from Chelsey Henry and 10 points each from Brooke Stauffer and Morgan Rogers.
CARL JUNCTION GIRLS
Webb City held Monett to no more than four points in any quarter and rolled to a 66-10 win at the Carl Junction girls tournament.
Mikaela Burgess hit three 3-pointers and led Webb City with 20 points. Kaitlin Beason added 15 while Desirea Buerge had 11. Casey Heger and Megan Heman each added nine.
DIAMOND, Mo. — Purdy held College Heights scoreless in the first quarter and rolled to a 53-15 win at the Diamond girls tournament.
Katie Hughes led Purdy with a game-high 12 points while Jayse Henderson added 10. Kirsty Green led College Heights with eight points.
