Oklahoma: Two lottery tickets sold in state hit jackpots

OKLAHOMA CITY — It was a big night for lottery jackpots in Oklahoma.

Two tickets sold in the state won multistate lottery jackpots on Wednesday, including one for the $85 million Powerball jackpot.

A second ticket sold in Oklahoma matched the numbers for the Hot Lotto jackpot, a separate multistate lottery game Oklahoma joined in January. That ticket was worth $2.1 million.

The Powerball ticket was purchased at a Stripes convenience store on East Broadway in Altus. The ticket matched all six Powerball numbers drawn, which were 4-33-46-48-52 and the Powerball number 17. The jackpot was $84.9 million.

Otis Peaks, vice president of human resources for Stripes, said the prize represents the most valuable Powerball jackpot ticket ever sold at a Stripes store.

“We’re real excited to be able to sell that $84 million lottery ticket to one of our customers,” Peaks said Thursday. “That’s just outstanding. It’s really great for our customers.”

A Hot Lotto ticket worth $2.1 million was purchased at the 1st Street Shell service station in Henryetta. The winning numbers were 6-9-23-24-39 and the Hot Ball was 10.

It is the third jackpot winning Powerball ticket sold in Oklahoma since January 2006. The WJW Investment Trust claimed the first jackpot of $101.8 million in August 2006 and Don and Joyce Harvey of Muldrow claimed a jackpot prize of $105.8 million in June 2007.

This is the second jackpot winning Hot Lotto ticket sold in Oklahoma since the launch of the game in January 2008. Steve Trimble of Oklahoma City claimed the first Hot Lotto jackpot worth $3.8 million in April of this year.

State lottery spokeswoman Katy Smith said no one had claimed the prizes and that lottery officials did not expect to hear from the winners until next week.

“We haven’t heard anything. We haven’t even got any phone calls,” Smith said.

Lottery officials said Powerball and Hot Lotto players should check their tickets for the winning numbers. If they have either winning ticket, they should claim their prize at the Oklahoma Lottery Commission offices.

The offices will be closed on Friday in observance of Independence Day.

Smith said the store that sold the winning Powerball ticket will receive a $25,000 bonus, and that the retailer for the Hot Lotto ticket will receive $5,000.
