Missouri: Mo. senator says ’cover-up’ with E. coli tests
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri senator leading a review of the delayed release of E. coli results says there has been an “organized cover-up” and an outside investigation might be necessary.
Republican Sen. Brad Lager, of Savannah, says his committee’s examination has been hindered by leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and possibly others.
A Senate environment committee is investigating how the DNR handles E. coli tests. The probe started after the environmental agency waited about a month to report high bacteria levels at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Lager said Wednesday the attorney general’s office should consider appointing special investigators to review DNR. When current governor Jay Nixon was attorney general, he used that tool to investigate whether then-Gov. Matt Blunt’s office complied with open records laws.
