The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning, meaning that the weather conditions are optimum for causing fire and wildfire.

The weather service has issued the warning for Jasper, Newton, Barton and McDonald counties in Missouri and Cherokee, Crawford and Bourbon counties in Kansas. The warning is in effect until 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Conditions that are prime for fire are low humidity, which the weather service said is at a level of 15 to 20 percent, and temperatures in the 90s with gusty winds and dry vegetation.
