Missouri unemployment rate falls to 6.9 percent

Missouri’s unemployment rate fell to 6.9 percent in September, its lowest rate since December 2008, according to a report released today by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The state’s unemployment rate has remained below the national rate for 37 consecutive months. Missouri non-farm payrolls added 2,500 jobs during September, bringing the year-to-date total of new jobs to 24,700.

The department said more than 46,000 jobs have been added in Missouri since the beginning of 2011.

Missouri’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell three-tenths of a point to 6.9 percent in September, nearly one full point below the U.S. average of 7.8 percent. Overall, Missouri’s unemployment rate has now fallen 2.8 percent since its recessionary peak of 9.7 percent.
