SENECA, Mo. — According to James Wilson of the Seneca District Fire Department, a grass and brush fire near Seneca that has consumed more than 100 acres is now under control.
The fire, first reported at 11:30 a.m., was started by trash being burned near Redbud and Crane roads despite all of Newton County still being under a burn ban.
Nine fire departments responded to the incident, with more than 40 firefighters on site.
The fire has burned grass, brush and hay bales, but has not damaged any structures.
