Severe weather forecast today for Joplin area

JOPLIN, Mo. — Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the Joplin area after 4 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service forecast office at Springfield.

Doug Cramer, a meteorologist with the office, said hail to the size of quarters and gusting winds to 60 mph will be the primary risks. The threat of severe weather will continue until 10 p.m. along and north of Interstate 44.

The severity of the storms will decrease by midnight.

There is a possibility the severe weather could carry over into Wednesday morning.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible daily through the end of the week.
