Area churches, groups set Thanksgiving meals

Residents in the region who want to fill up on turkey and the trimmings for Thanksgiving don’t necessarily have to fire up the oven.

A number of local churches and other organizations will be sponsoring holiday dinners open to anyone in the community. Most will be served on Thanksgiving Day, though Crosslines Churches of Neosho got a jump on the season with a dinner served Saturday at the Lampo Building.

This year will mark the 15th annual Thanksgiving dinner served by the First United Methodist Church of Joplin. The event is set for 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the church located at Fourth Street and Byers Avenue,.

Thanksgiving dinner also will be served at Joplin Salvation Army, Carthage Crisis Center, St. John Lutheran Church in Pittsburg, Kan. and Miami, Okla. Church of Christ,

In Miami, Okla., the First United Methodist Church of Miami, Okla. will serve a Thanksgiving meal from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

And a Thanksgiving breakfast is scheduled at Diamond High School, and a brunch at Soul’s Harbor in Joplin.
