Jasper County’s “shop with a deputy funds” allocated

By Susan Redden

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A stand-off over money donated for Jasper County’s “shop with a deputy” program was resolved today during a Jasper County Commission meeting. Commissioners approved a proposal allowing the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 27, a regional organization of law enforcement officers, to serve as a conduit for the money.

The agreement will allow Jasper County deputies to move forward with the program set for Dec. 15, Sheriff Archie Dunn said after the meeting.

“My employees are very glad to have this settled and we appreciate the FOP for stepping forward to help,” the sheriff said.

Under the pact, more than $23,000 in funds previously given for the program will be made available, with an accounting of expenditures to be provided to the commission on or before Jan. 31. The commission earlier had ordered the benevolent account for the sheriff department closed and the panel and Dunn had been unable to reach an agreement on how the money would be spent.
