Three in custody for robbery of pizza deliveryman

JOPLIN, Mo. — Three suspects were tracked down and taken into custody following a robbery of a pizza deliveryman late Saturday night in a central Joplin neighborhood.

Cpl. Chuck Niess, of the Joplin Police Department, said three males robbed a Domino’s Pizza deliveryman about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of 18th Street and Pearl Avenue.

One of the suspects displayed a gun, he said. They took a small amount of cash and six pizzas from the deliveryman and fled to a nearby residence, he said.

“Witnesses showed officers which house,” Niess said. “They ended up having a SWAT (special weapons and tactics team) call, but they all came out peacefully.”

The three suspects who were taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday were identified as Caleb S. Baker, 19, 1801 S. Wall Ave.; Shawn M. Simmons, 19, 820 S. Patterson Ave.; and Keith D. Walton, 30, who listed a local ministry-operated shelter as his address.

Niess said the pizza delivery driver was not harmed in the course of the robbery.
