OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. —
Weather forecasters say the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaac could bring much-needed rain to drought-stricken eastern Oklahoma.
The National Hurricane Center on Monday showed the storm is expected to bring rain to the eastern one-third of the state starting Friday.
National Weather Service meteorologist Amy Jankowski in Tulsa said the storm could bring eight to 10 inches of rain to that part of the state. Jankowski said the storm could also just as easily change its track and miss the state entirely.
The most recent U.S. Drought Monitor shows northeastern Oklahoma in exceptional drought -- the most severe category. The remainder of eastern Oklahoma was in severe to extreme drought.
Much of western Oklahoma was rated in exceptional drought -- but the storm wasn’t expected to stretch that far west.

Though this week’s mild temperatures may not signal swim season, most area pools are ready anyway. And, the mercury should rise a little this weekend to help those anxious to dive in. Joplin Board of Education to decide fate of East Middle School teacher
