VIDEO: Diamond grass fire may require monitoring through night

— UPDATE, 4:57 p.m.: While the fire is currently under control, firefighters may have to monitor the area throughout the night to keep it from reigniting.

The fire came within 30 feet of a residence and singed several ponies. The animals are safe, according to their owner.

Highway 59 has been reopened now that a grass fire that burned 100 acres, one structure and 700 hay bales north of Diamond has been contained.

The fire, which was reported at 11:30 a.m., is on the property of Body's Truck Repair near the intersection of Highway 59 and Aspen Road.

The fire reportedly jumped the highway several times but has been contained to the west of the road by nine area fire departments called in to battle the blaze.

While the highway has been reopened, motorists are urged to drive slowly. Firefighters will remain on scene until the hay bales, which could reignite, are extinguished.
