Noel fire kills five-year-old girl

NOEL, Mo. — Firefighters have found the body of a 5-year-old girl in a burned-out apartment building in Noel.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson says units from seven neighboring departments helped fight the blaze at the three-unit building.

Firefighters and law enforcement officers were told a 5-year-old girl was still inside the building, but they were unable to get inside. Her body was found after the fire was out.

The girl’s father was flown to a Springfield hospital with serious burns.

Names of the father and daughter are being withheld while relatives are notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
