Strong storms forecast for Joplin region on Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Strong storms, including some that might be severe, are forecast for Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast office at Springfield.

The forecast office, in a statement released this morning, said a vigorous storm system is approaching the region from the West.

Large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary risks associated with the storms. Heavy rain could lead to localized flooding in some areas of the Ozarks.

Frost or freeze conditions are expected Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s or lower 30s during the overnight period.
