JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. —
Members of Southwest Missouri’s delegation to the Missouri House of Representatives are well placed in a handful of state committees this year, as tough decisions are made on budget and economic issues.
State Rep. Tom Flanigan, R-Carthage, was appointed chairman of the House Fiscal Review Committee. However, perhaps his most powerful seat is on the committee he co-chairs: the House Budget Committee.
House Leadership also selected Bill Lant, R-Anderson, to serve as chairman of the House Workforce Development and Workplace Safety Committee. That could be the committee through which many of Speaker Tim Jones’s economic development priorities would pass.
Rep. Charlie Davis, R-Webb City, a U.S. Navy Veteran, was selected as chairman of the House Veterans Committee.
Rep. Bill Reiboldt, R-Neosho, will chair the House Agriculture Policy Committee. That committee directs bills that have to do with farming and other parts of the rural policy, which are important to the agricultural industry in Southwest Missouri, particularly as farmers continue to struggle from the summer’s crippling drought.
Mike Kelley, R-Lamar, is vice chairman of the House Committee on downsizing state government.
