Fire threat could increase with strong winds on Thursday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A significant threat for fire danger will exist across the region Thursday as strong southerly winds and dry conditions prevail.

Wind gusts Thursday could exceed 30 to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service forecast office at Springfield.

A mix of light snow and rain will be possible Friday morning into Saturday. Cold ground temperatures may result in slick spots on area road ways.

There is a chance for light snow on Sunday. Accumulations of less than 2 inches are possible along and southeast of the Interstate 44 corridor.

A strong and more organized storm system will approach the region Monday night into Tuesday, bringing a chance for some significant wintry weather.
