Harps opens grocery store near Fir Road, Highway 171

AIRPORT DRIVE, Mo. — Harps Food opened a new grocery store today in Airport Drive, north of Joplin.

The 32,000-square-foot store is located near the intersection of Fir Road and Missouri Highway 171.

Harps Food Stores Inc., based in Springdale, Ark., also owns the Food 4 Less stores in Joplin and Springfield. Both stores were taken over in late 2009.

Harps has stores in southern Missouri, eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas. Harps also operates smaller stores in strategic locations where shopping is more convenient for the consumer.

In 2001, the company’s employee stock ownership plan purchased all the outstanding stock, and the company became 100 percent employee-owned. Since 2001, employees have seen their stock price nearly quadruple.

The company’s 67 stores employ more than 3,200 people.
