JOPLIN, Mo. —
NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne on Wednesday will join Farmers Insurance volunteers at a Rebuild Joplin project to rebuild a house destroyed in the May 2011 tornado.
After learning about Rebuild Joplin, Kahne decided to volunteer before an upcoming race in Kansas City on Sunday.
He also will be part of a public event at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham Park, 26th Street and Maiden Lane.
The Farmers Insurance Auto Lab was on display today in the parking lot of Walgreens, 2001 S. Range Line Road. Auto Lab is a full-size rotating NASCAR race car, designed to give fans a working knowledge of the safety features of a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car and how those technologies compare to today's consumer vehicles.
By walking onto the stage, fans received an up-close view of the car rotating.
The Auto Lab will also be on display all day Wednesday at Cunningham Park.
Kahne is competing in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Chase Series, where on Tuesday he was ranked 13th.
He earned Rookie-of-the Year honors in 2004, when he joined the Sprint Cup Series. He has accumulated 14 wins, 121 top-10 finishes and 26 poles. He drives the No. 5 Farmers Insurance Gen-6 Chevrolet, developed by General Motors and Hendrick Motorsports, according to farmersracing.com.
