Joplin street closings announced for festival

JOPLIN, Mo. — Main Street in downtown Joplin from Second to Seventh streets will be closed later today as the Route 66 International Festival opens.

The closure will be in effect for the duration of the festival through Sunday morning.

The south half of the parking lot behind City Hall will close late Friday to the public to make space for overflow for the festival car show. The car show is to be held on Sixth Street north of City Hall.

On Saturday morning, Fourth Street will be closed until Sunday morning.

The city has designated the Central Christian Center parking lot at Fifth Street and Virginia Avenue for vendors of the festival.

A car cruise will start at 5:30 p.m. today in downtown Joplin and travel Route 66 to the Roue 66 Drive-In Movie Theater at Carthage.
