Reception to recognize AmeriCorps St. Louis staff

The Joplin Globe

— A reception for the staff of AmeriCorps St. Louis is set for 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2423 W. 26th St. in Joplin.

The Joplin community is invited to drop by to recognize AmeriCorps staff for their work after the May 2011 tornado. Over the past 18 months, staff have operated a volunteer reception center and a missing persons call center, transported volunteers into the field to help with debris removal and search and rescue efforts, moved residents from temporary housing into permanent housing, delivered donated items to families and assisted with minor repair jobs.

The grant that has funded their work is set to expire later this month, and the city of Joplin and several local organizations have been working to assume their responsibilities after their departure.

Snacks and drinks will be provided at the reception.
