CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Mark Westhoff, a member of the Carthage School Board, was arrested early Sunday in Newton County on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Westhoff, 56, of Carthage, also has been charged with failing to yield to an emergency vehicle displaying red lights and siren, and failing to drive on the right half of the roadway. The arrest was made at 3:33 a.m. Sunday.
The patrol report did not include further details or information about the location of the arrest.
Westhoff, a dentist, is a longtime board member and former board president. His current term of office expires in 2016.
Lee Pound, school board president, said Westhoff had contacted her. “Right now, this is a personal legal issue for him,” she said.
Westhoff on Monday agreed: “I’m not running away from it or hiding from it. I hope to, after talking with my lawyer, be able to make a more inclusive statement.”
A NEWTON COUNTY JAILER said Mark Westhoff was released Sunday on a $1,000 surety bond.
