Missouri Southern blanks Gorillas 9-0

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Tee Helsel’s grand slam highlighted a six-run seventh inning, and Brett Abell pitched a six-hit shutout as Missouri Southern decked Pittsburg State 9-0 Thursday afternoon in the MIAA Postseason Tournament.

The third-seeded Lions (32-19) advance to the winner’s bracket final at 11 a.m. today against top-seeded Missouri Western. The Griffons beat Central Oklahoma 9-3 in Thursday’s first game.

The Gorillas (28-23) and Central Oklahoma play an elimination game on Thursday night.
