No one hurt in early morning house fire

JOPLIN, Mo. — No one was injured in an early morning Joplin fire that caused extensive damage to a house at 517 S. Sergeant Ave. today.

According to the Joplin Fire Department, smoke was coming from the eaves and roof of the two-story house when firefighters arrived at 7:41 a.m. Crews who attempted to enter the house were forced to pull back because of the flames.

The house is owned by Imogene Runner, who lived there with her daughter, Karol Holland.

According to Holland, a neighbor saw smoke coming from the house and banged on the front door, alerting them and helping them get out. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
