Wintry mix forecast for Joplin area

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Another round of wintry precipitation will impact the Joplin area from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service forecast office at Springfield.

The precipitation will spread over the area from the south. Temperatures will initially be above freezing, but will drop to or below freezing. That will produce a mixture of snow and sleet, which will change over to all snow Wednesday night.

Amounts will range from a dusting to 2 inches of snow. The higher amounts will occur east of U.S. Highway 65 and south of Interstate 44.

Late Wednesday night, the snow will mix with freezing drizzle or light freezing rain. There will be a potential for light freezing drizzle over the entire region Thursday morning. A thin glaze of ice will be possible before temperatures warm above freezing Thursday afternoon.
