Butterball scouting Baxter Springs for processing plant

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — An official with Butterball has visited the former Orval Kent Food Co. plant, looking at it as a potential location for a processing plant for the company.

Cherokee County Commissioner Richard Hilderbrand said Wednesday an engineer with the company visited the former salad processing plant on July 18. A decision is expected in the first quarter of next year. He said the potential employment level the official mentioned was 250.

The plant closed in January, leaving 200 permanent and temporary employees without jobs.
